BEIT MIDRASH – A Place for Learning
Our mission is to sow the seeds of a lifetime dedication to Torah, Mitzvot, and Jewish values.  Our religious school also promotes Zionism and the State of Israel, love of the Hebrew Language, and each Jew’s responsibility to be an integral part of the Jewish and secular communities in which we live.

RELIGIOUS SCHOOL
Congregation Kol Ami offers youth from pre-school through high school an opportunity to explore the depths and beauty of our tradition and the Hebrew language. Our mission is to sow the seeds of a lifetime dedication to Torah and Mitzvot, by promoting Zionism, the State of Israel, love of the Hebrew Language, and the responsibility to be an integral part of the Jewish and secular communities in which we live.

For our 2017-2018 school year, classes are offered for grades Pre-Kindergarten (age 4) through 6th grade, Saturdays at Kol Ami from 9 am to 12 pm, taught by experienced Judaica teachers. Each school session also includes a Tefillah (prayer) session led by Rabbi Kinberg. Grades 4-6 also meet on Wednesdays or Thursdays for a midweek Hebrew session.

Kitah Gan (Pre-K and Kindergarten) focuses on experiential activities involving crafts, movement, music, and storytelling to engage students in learning basic Jewish symbols, celebrations and Jewish values.

Kitah Aleph through Kitah Gimmel (1-4 grades) begin an integrated curriculum that introduces Hebrew reading for prayer. The Judaica portion of the curriculum is built on three pillars of Judaism: Torah, Avodah (worship), and G’milut Chasadim (acts of loving-kindness). The idea that we are a holy people, created in God’s image, is stressed at this level. The study of Torah and acts of loving-kindness are ways in which we learn of our partnership with God. We also focus on our holy days and an introduction to Jewish history.

Kitah Daled through Kitah Vav (Grades 5-6) continue studying Hebrew for prayer with Mitkadem and the ability to understand key Jewish prayers. We learn about the history of Torah, the Holocaust, and modern Israel. Fourth through Sixth graders also meet on Wednesdays or Thursdays for additional Hebrew studies.

Kitah Zion (7th Grade) master Hebrew for prayer in preparation for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah. The Jewish life cycle and understanding Reform Judaism are also studied. Students also meet individually with their Torah Tutor.

Post Bar/Bat Mitzvah teens are encouraged to remain involved in the religious school by serving as Madrichim (teacher aides) or tutors.
